tutorial ► cleaning manga panels
Mini-Tutorial

quickly clean up manga panels using two adjustment layers!

software: adobe photoshop
can be easily done with mouse/touchpad

1. Click on the Adjustment Layer symbol at the bottom of the Layers window. Using Adjustment Layers allows you to edit freely without permanently altering the manga panel. No need to press undo to go back to the beginning — you can just delete the Adjustment Layer if you change your mind!

2. Select Levels.

3. Select the third eyedropper (alt text should say sample in image to set white point). Then you're going to click on a part of the image you want to be white.

4. All parts of the image with that tone-or-brighter will become white. You might have to click around a bit until you get the result you want!

5. Select the first eyedropper (alt text should say sample in image to set black point). Then you're going to click on a part of the image you want to be black.

6. All parts of the image with that tone-or-darker will become black. You might have to click around a bit until you get the result you want as well.

7. If you want to make some fine tuning, you can move the black and/or white sliders a bit.

8. If the image you're working with isn't grayscale, you can go to Adjustment Layers again and select Hue/Saturation.

9. Slide saturation all the way to -100.

10. To clean up any specks, I use a white brush with 100% Hardness and 100% Opacity on a new Layer.

And done!
If you want to merge all the layers together, go to the Layer tab on the menus at the top > Flatten Image.

Hope this is helpful! Thank you [personal profile] mazios for letting me use this panel for the tutorial.

If you want to, you can drop me a little coffee wink wink. :>
